Small tiny sit in / take out spot - ghetto as ever. I was in NYC for the weekend the Hurricane hit and let me tell you - all I remember is the festival bread, the stew chicken and the jerk chicken. The portion sizes are HUGE. I barely was able to finish mine. The Stewed Chicken is better than the Jerk Chicken, but not by much. Both are super tasty and succulent. You are looking at spending less than $20.00 for two orders of meat (comes with rice and side), drinks and most importantly FESTIVAL BREAD. If you are not west Indian fear not just be confident and go in there and take your time and order, it may seem intimidating but at least sometimes its good to go knowing what you want before hand. The lady at the front was blank faced but she warmed up after...

Food was cold, no white rice, no plantains, jerk chicken wasn't seasoned like I'm used to. And the macaroni looked disgusting. Definitely wouldn't recommend and I got wind of this place through Yelp.

Horrible service, curry goat tasted like it was burned as if they rubbed it all over in charcoal, oxtail was tough & almost impossible to eat , low customer service / disrespectful workers. This place has one of the worst jamaican food and people manners that I ever experienced. My trip from Jersey all the way to Manhattan just to support this place was not even worth it ! I've been here a couple of times but today will definitely be my last visit. They knew the poor quality of the food and still had the audacity to sell that piece of crap to well paying customers. Even giving this "restaurant" a rating of 1 star is above what it deserved. Highly disappointed :(

Such a gem! The food is great! This family owned and run business offers great selections. The service is always friendly. There is seating available and is usually not crowded (I usually take out and it seems like others do the same). The beef patties are the best! They are homemade not golden crust frozen patties like everyone else sells. Also, the curry goat and oxtails are amazing! You won't regret it!

Poor food quality. Definitely not worth it. Many other options around the neighborhood if you want Caribbean food. Never coming back.

Came in at dinner time, the place was dark, the food bar was half empty, everything looked like day-old left over. The only lady working wasn't rude but definitely wasn't friendly or helpful. Prices are pretty high for this neighborhood.

This place is alright if you're not used to authentic Jamaican food. It gets the job done but it misses the mark a bit. Their festivals are delicious and their ackee is good but to me their jerk and curry chicken could be better. The jerk wasn't hot and my curry was watery.

Still the best in the area. This is the place to get the best patties and pretty good hot food. Patty stop is ok but this place is way excellent. Still my fave since 2003.

I was craving jerk chicken one day, so my boyfriend and I decided to come here for lunch. However, my goal to eat jerk chicken that day was unfulfilled. I was truly disappointed as they were still serving breakfast items during lunch hours. And the female server was not that nice. She informed us that the jerk chicken would be available if we came back in another hour for lunch. In an hour, we came back to find out that the lunch is not ready, and that we have to come back again in 30 minutes. After another 30 minutes, the female server informed us that the cook did not finish making all the lunch items, and that jerk chicken will not be available. I was so frustrated. I felt like she wasted our time, and lied to us. We were so hungry and got whatever food was available. My boyfriend ordered the oxtail w/ rice and peas, and I ordered curry chicken w/ rice and peas. The oxtail was not that tasty, and the meat was meager. The curry chicken was the worse I have ever eaten. The chicken did not taste tender, and the curry sauce was not that tasty. This shop did not do Jamaican food justice. I have eaten better jamaican foods in Montego Bay, Jamaica when I vacationed there, and in Canarsie, Brooklyn. I will definitely not be coming back here. I rather support a mom & pop shop that treasures its customers.

I absolutely love their beef patties. They are home made and not microwaved. The home made ginger beer is delicious and the pastries are worth getting as a cheat treat. I always get great service whenever I place an order.

Why does anyone go here? There are so many better places. It's pricey, super stingy, and the food lacks flavor. Seriously bland, folks. It's CARIBBEAN food. It should have some moxie. This doesn't. Go to Wat's on your Plate? around the corner or People's Choice if you don't mind paying a bit too much .

Come here for the rice and meats. I give Donovan's jerk chicken a 4 out of 5 because the tender chicken is always grilled perfectly with delicious flavor, and the only reason for not 5 out of 5 is because they don't have jerk sauce to pour on top. The gravy doesn't cut it, even though its still really good. The rice with beans are outstanding. Overall, 5 out of 5!

I'm pissed here! How do I order the beef stew and it's frigging luke warm? I'm west indian. I know westindian food. They are lacking . The food here used to be good. Or maybe they have a new chef. I was dissapointed when we came home with the food we ordered and it was cold, and not seasoned ( enough for my taste). I'll give it one more try before I write this place off.

rode into harlem specifically to check this place out on a recommendation. we were the only non-caribbean types in the place for the 2 hours we were there (don't know if there's a better recommendation than that, but here goes), we ordered as much as we could, trying the curried goat, beef stew, jerk chicken, chicken stew, callaloo, patties, festival bread, and obviously rice+peas, vegetables. my new yorker friends were eating, like sort of dumbfounded that a place so good was utterly unknown to them. conclusion: if you're like me and you came up with jamaican/trini joints and miss this food, this place is worth the ride up. if you're from manhattan or brooklyn, this place is worth the ride up, oh, and four of us ate virtually everything on the menu for ~50 bones. not bad.

This place is a godsend. I work a few blocks away at City College and eat here at least once a week for lunch. I usually order a small (styrofoam clamshell package) and load it up with some combination of meats, starches and veggies. for $6.50-$7 its more than adequate for lunch and often leaves me extra to snack on the rest of the afternoon. Particular standouts include the jerk chicken - just a bit spicy, never dry, best I've ever had, the bbq chicken, stew chicken, mac and cheese, stew peas - kind of like creole red beans with tons of flavor, and fried plantains. I usually round things out with some collard greens or stewed cabbage, and they'll also spoon gravy from any of their currys or stews over the rest of your food. The staff is pretty no-nonsense, but they'll generally let you mix and match whatever you want. Atmosphere is pretty drab, like a dingy little old fast food place, but the food here is really really good.

Their food here is AWESOME! i am Jamaican and very picky. I go here everytime I desire good Jamaican food. The place is not the best afar as atmosphere but well worth going. I have the soup, which is there everyday. And it's consistent.

The sign says, "Food Hut - Caribbean Cuisine." It also says, "Jamaican Restaurant." This place is delicious! I came here based on a recommendation from someone at a gourmet cheese shop in Williamsburg. I'm glad that I followed up on it. I order a medium portion of the Jerk Chicken, which comes with rice and peas and some veggies and fried plantains. I also ordered a Jamaican Pineapple soda. Everything was authentic and excellent, especially the chicken, which I covered in their spicy, homemade Jerk sauce. Almost everything here is homemade. The woman behind the counter was very friendly, too. If you're anywhere near this neighborhood, I highly recommend eating here. I've only eaten authentic Jamaican food once before, and I enjoyed it. I will definitely visit this business again.

The place doesn't look like much, but the food is fantastic. Their beef patties are the best in the neighborhood. I love the oxtail with rice and peas--incredibly tasty. They also have delicious juices. I recommend it highly!
